Where do you work? Eveningside Vineyards

How long have you worked there? I’ve worked here since June 2011.

What wines do you like to drink at home? I really dig whites like Riesling and Chardonnay.

Other than wines sold at your winery, what are some of your favorite local wines? Freedom Run’s Estate Cabernet Franc was great the last time I tried it.

What sites, attractions or restaurants would you recommend for visitors? Center Street in Lewiston, NY has a lot to see and do. I would definitely recommend Hops & Vines Lounge.

If you could visit any other wine region today, where would you go? Sonoma!

What’s surprised you most about Niagara Wine Country USA? We were surprised by how young and informative the staffs were in the tasting rooms.

What other wine regions have you previously visited? Wachau Valley, Austria and the Conneticut Wine Trail

What other sites, attractions or restaurants have you visited in wine country? We took in the view of the Horseshoe Falls from Canada, visited the Skylon Tower and we plan on heading to Carmelo’s Restaurant in Lewiston, NY for dinner.

Chateau Niagara’s Menu Seeing Red

When Chateau Niagara quietly opened on West Creek Road in Newfane last year they did so with three unapologetically dry white wines. The wines, made up of a combination of estate grown and purchased fruit were a reflection of what owners Jim & Kathy Baker drank at home and represented how they saw food friendly wines as the calling card of the region.

“We’re making wines that we want to drink that are meant to be enjoyed at the table with friends and family,” says owner and winemaker Jim Baker.

And that they did – their first releases were brightly acidic, clean and appealing to lovers of that style. Their Gewürztraminer quickly became a best seller in the tasting room and a reputation for crisp whites followed.
